Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother (2026) Review: A Hitman's Faith Meets Fatherhood

This your mother your mother your mother review starts with a simple point: crime thrillers rarely feel this personal. Writer-director Bassam Tariq turns a hitman story into a study of faith, grief and fatherhood, with Mahershala Ali at its center. It is an action-crime film with an unusual heartbeat.

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)

Latif (Ali) is a man of deep religious devotion who also kills for money. He has learned to live with that contradiction, at least on the surface. Then his wife dies, and the careful balance between work, belief and family begins to slip.

The plot follows Latif across Houston as he tries to keep his children safe. Threats close in from outside, while doubts gnaw at him from within. The film is a Houston-set journey rather than a puzzle box, and that keeps the story clear and focused. Tariq also wrote the script, which gives the film a unified voice.

What Works in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother

The central idea is the film's biggest asset. Many crime thrillers feel interchangeable, but this one grows from a character who is both principled and deadly. Some critics note that it takes the familiar lone-warrior archetype and views it through the lens of a Muslim character, which gives old tropes new meaning.

• A distinct tone: The film blends action, crime and spiritual drama without feeling like a copy of something else.

• Family at the core: The relationship between Latif and his children gives the violence real stakes.

• A clear sense of place: Houston is more than a backdrop. It is the ground Latif must cross.

Critical reception has been strong. Rotten Tomatoes showed a 96% critics score from 120 reviews at the time of research, and its consensus calls the film an inventive, tonally unique action flick.

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother Cast and Performances

The your mother your mother your mother cast is led by Mahershala Ali, and reviewers keep returning to his soulful, commanding work. He makes Latif's contradictions believable, which is the hardest job in the film. His quiet scenes land as hard as his action beats.

The supporting cast includes John Cho as Pastor Kwan, Giancarlo Esposito as Abdul Malik, Abubakr Ali as Hatty, Laith Nakli as Mike Mahmoudi and Adia as Fatiha. Critics have singled out the father-daughter relationship in particular, with several calling the young performer a scene-stealer whose emotional depth rivals Ali's presence.

Where Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother Stumbles

Not every critic is convinced. Deadline calls it a hard sell, too thoughtful for a mindless action movie and not arty enough for some art-house viewers. That in-between position can leave both camps a little unsatisfied.
