Ustaad Bhagat Singh (2026) Review: A Fan-Service Action Comedy Built Around Its Star

This Ustaad Bhagat Singh review starts with a simple point: the film is made for Pawan Kalyan fans first and everyone else second. Director Harish Shankar reunites with the star for a Telugu action comedy that leans on swagger, punchlines and mass-hero moments. If you love that formula, you will find plenty to enjoy.

Ustaad Bhagat Singh Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)

The Ustaad Bhagat Singh plot opens with a tribal boy whose teacher gives him the name Bhagat Singh. The teacher's values stay with him and shape the way he lives. He grows up with a firm sense of right and wrong.

The adult Bhagat Singh is a police officer. The film builds its drama around his clashes with powerful criminals and a corrupt politician, and he refuses to back down even when the odds look bad. The tagline, "This time it's not just entertainment," hints at a more serious message beneath the humour.

Harish Shankar wrote the screenplay with Ramesh Reddy. The film runs about 151 minutes and carries a U/A certificate in India. It is a mix of action and comedy in Telugu, and the Ustaad Bhagat Singh release date was 18 March 2026.

What Works in Ustaad Bhagat Singh

The biggest strength is the star himself. Critics who liked the film pointed to Pawan Kalyan delivering in his trademark style, with the sarcastic smile and heavy punches the story promises. The film is clearly designed to showcase him, and it does that job with confidence.

The Mahankali fight sequence stands out as a solid high point in the reviews I have seen. Action set pieces like this are where the film's energy is most focused.

A few other positives:

• A clear moral core: the hero fights injustice, and the teacher's influence gives his actions a simple motive.

• Fan-pleasing moments built around the star's image.

• A brisk, mass-entertainer tone that knows its audience.

Ustaad Bhagat Singh Cast and Performances

The Ustaad Bhagat Singh cast is led by Pawan Kalyan as Bhagat Singh. He carries the film from start to finish, and most of the praise it has earned goes to his screen presence.

Sreeleela plays RJ Leela and Raashii Khanna plays Shloka, the film's two leading women. R. Parthiban appears as Nalla Nagappa, Nawab Shah as Ajmal Rahim and Avinash as Miya Bhai. The supporting players mostly serve the hero's story, so the ensemble matters less than the lead.

Where Ustaad Bhagat Singh Stumbles

The main problem is the writing. Reviews describe a film that cares more about elevating Pawan Kalyan's image than building a strong narrative. The story follows a predictable path, so few moments surprise you.

Comedy and Pacing

The first half struggles, according to critics, because of weak writing and comedy that does not land. For a film billed as an action comedy, that is a real flaw. Jokes that fall flat can make a long runtime feel longer.

Critical reception is mixed to negative. Gulte gave it 2.5 out of 5 and 123telugu gave 2.75 out of 5. Indian Express was harsher at 1.5 out of 5, and Rotten Tomatoes shows 69% from a very small group of five reviews. Audience scores are modest too, with TMDB users at 6 out of 10 from only 11 votes.

Is Ustaad Bhagat Singh Worth Watching?

It is worth watching if you are already a Pawan Kalyan fan, and a harder sell for everyone else. The star power and the standout fight scene deliver what fans want, but the thin script and uneven comedy keep it from being a satisfying film in its own right.

If you want a tight, surprising story, look elsewhere. For a crowd-pleasing night of hero worship, it does the job. You can read more about the film on its IMDb page.
