How we rate moviesIn this article
This home sweet home: rebirth review covers a Thai-set action horror about a city swallowed by possessed mobs. Michele Morrone leads as a cop racing to protect his family, and the film mostly bets on mayhem over mystery. Here is what works, what doesn't and who should press play.
Home Sweet Home: Rebirth Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)
The premise is simple and loud. A demonically possessed crowd takes over a city, and a police officer named Mek must find the source of the evil before it reaches the people he loves. The tagline sums up the mood: the gates of hell have been opened.
The film opens fast, dropping us into chaos and terror almost at once. That early rush sets the tone for a 93-minute ride built around the Home Sweet Home: Rebirth plot of one man against a swarming, unnatural threat. Directors Alexander Kiesl and Steffen Hacker, who also wrote the script, keep the setup lean and the pace brisk.
The film arrived on 20 March 2025. It blends action with a light mystery thread, and a good share of horror imagery.
What Works in Home Sweet Home: Rebirth
The best thing here is the spectacle of the crowd. Scenes of mass possession deliver real mayhem, and some viewers have praised the effects work and creature design as a highlight. When the film leans into maniacal violence, it feels committed.
Pace: at 93 minutes, it rarely sits still.
Atmosphere: a hellish city makes a striking backdrop for the horror.
Gore and creatures: genre fans get plenty of gruesome set pieces.
The mystery angle, the hunt for the source of the evil, gives the action a loose spine. It is not deep, but it keeps Mek moving from one set piece to the next.
Home Sweet Home: Rebirth Cast and Performances
Michele Morrone plays Mek, and he brings a gruff intensity that suits a father pushed to the edge. He carries the film with physical commitment more than nuance, which is fine for this kind of story. William Moseley appears as Jake, and Urassaya Sperbund plays Prang.
The supporting players include Alexander as Chan, Ting Sue as Cutter Girl and Tia Taveepanichpan as Teenager Girl. Several of these roles are thinly sketched, so the Home Sweet Home: Rebirth cast has limited room to shine. The leads do what they can with direct, functional dialogue.
Where Home Sweet Home: Rebirth Stumbles
The story is the weak point. Characters are drawn in broad strokes, and the family stakes never hit as hard as the film wants them to. When the action quiets down, the script has little to fall back on.
The mystery element also feels underdeveloped. The search for the source of the evil promises more intrigue than it delivers, and the hunt is often a pretext for the next fight. Audience reception has been mixed, with a TMDB score of 5.9 out of 10 from 177 votes.
Tonal consistency is another issue. The film swings between brutal horror, pulpy action and earnest family drama without fully blending them.
Is Home Sweet Home: Rebirth Worth Watching?
It is worth watching if you want a loud, gory, low-pressure genre night, but not if you expect a sharp story. The film's strengths are its energy, its creature-feature imagery and its willingness to go over the top.
If you prefer layered scripts and developed characters, you will probably feel let down. If you are happy to switch off and enjoy possessed-crowd chaos, it delivers enough. Fans of horror with a heavy action streak will get the most from it.
