How we rate moviesSynopsis
Evelyn Wang is juggling a failing laundromat, a strained marriage, a visit from her demanding father and a tense relationship with her daughter Joy. In the middle of a tax audit, an alternate version of her husband tells her that the multiverse is in danger — and that she, of all the Evelyns, may be the one to save it.
Controlled chaos
The Daniels throw everything at the screen: kung fu, absurdist comedy, family melodrama and existential philosophy. Remarkably, the film's editing keeps it all legible, and every outlandish universe ends up feeding the central relationship between mother and daughter.
Performances
Michelle Yeoh gets to show every side of her talent at once, from action star to dramatic lead. Ke Huy Quan's gentle, quietly heroic Waymond is the film's secret weapon, and Stephanie Hsu makes Joy both terrifying and heartbreaking. All three, along with Jamie Lee Curtis, were recognized at the 95th Academy Awards.
Where it stumbles
The relentless pace of the middle section can be tiring, and not every crude joke lands. Viewers who prefer restraint may find it a lot.

- Absurd humor that pays off emotionally
Cons
- The maximalist second act can feel exhausting
- Some gags are deliberately juvenile
Our Verdict
Beneath the hot-dog fingers and googly eyes is a tender story about family, regret and choosing kindness. It is unlike anything else — and it works.
