No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger (2026) Review: A Crossover Finale With Big Ideas

This No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger review covers a fast, noisy crossover that packs two Super Sentai teams into just over an hour. It is the 31st entry in Toei's VS series and, so far, the last. Directed by Shojiro Nakazawa, it is an action spectacle built for fans first.

No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)

The plot starts at the Big Bang Grand Prix, where the Boonboomgers are competing. Their run ends abruptly when Universe No. 1, the top-ranked monster in the cosmos, appears and triggers a universe fusion. Parallel worlds crash together into a single messy continuum.

Taiya Hando, also known as Bun Red, is suddenly thrown onto Planet Shaft. A Bitter Demon Beast called Galaxy Circuit Guruma attacks him there, and Hoeru Tono, the Gozyu Wolf, arrives to back him up. Back on Earth, the rest of the Gozyugers take on the giant threat.

That is the setup, and the film moves quickly from there. If you want more than the first act, you should see it yourself. The story is written by Tatsuto Higuchi and leans on multiverse chaos as its engine.

What Works in No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger

The film delivers what a team-up should: lots of fighting and plenty of colorful heroes sharing the screen. One Letterboxd reviewer, Justin Decloux, praised the fights and the brisk runtime of about 60 minutes. That energy is the main selling point.

• Pace: At 64 minutes, there is little time to get bored.

• Crossover fun: Pairing heroes from different worlds creates easy chemistry and fun combinations.

• Side characters: One blog review, My Shiny Toy Robots, says the movie makes somewhat good use of both series' supporting players.

The film also gives Hoeru a big moment with a new form, Saint Gozyu Wolf, announced with a vow to stop the battle. It is a bold, theatrical beat that suits the genre.

No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Cast and Performances

The Gozyuger side is led by Mio Fuyuno as Hoeru Tono, who transforms into Gozyu Wolf. The rest of the team includes Hideharu Suzuki as Rikuo Byakuya (Gozyu Leon), Masakazu Kanda as Ryugi Bakugami (Gozyu Tyranno), Jin Matsumoto as Kinjiro Takehara (Gozyu Eagle), Kohaku Shida as Sumino Ichikawa (Gozyu Unicorn) and Kaiki Kimura as Mashiro Kumade (Gozyu Polar).

The Boonboomger heroes, including Taiya Hando as Bun Red, along with Bun Blue, Bun Pink and Bun Black, also return. The cast list available to me covers only the Gozyuger actors, so I will not comment on the Boonboomger performers individually.

Performances here are broad, as the genre demands. Fuyuno carries the film's emotional core as Hoeru, and the ensemble keeps the tone lively. Super Sentai acting is about commitment and charm, and this cast has both.

Where No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Stumbles

Critical reaction is limited, and what exists is mixed. A Letterboxd user said the first 45 minutes were okay at best and felt confused or nonsensical in terms of the main plot. Another called it a very flawed movie, though a fine way to close out the franchise before its hiatus.

That matches the risk of a multiverse crossover. When worlds merge, the film has to explain a lot while also delivering action. With only an hour to work with, character arcs and logic can get squeezed.

Newcomers will feel this most. You may enjoy the fights, but the in-jokes and team dynamics will mean much more if you know both series.

Is No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Worth Watching?

Yes, if you are a Super Sentai fan or enjoy colorful tokusatsu action. It is short, energetic and built around the pleasure of seeing two teams fight side by side. The story is not flawless, but the runtime keeps it from overstaying its welcome.

If you are new to the franchise, it is a harder sell. You can find more in our action movie reviews if you want a broader entry point. For a different kind of spy-flavored action, try our D.I.S.C.O. review.

The film arrived in Japan on 20 March 2026. For background on the series and its place in the VS lineup, see the Power Rangers Wiki entry.
